This past summer I spent 6 weeks in the beautiful country of Italy studying the language and culture. Those weeks, aside from the occasional bump in the road, were some of the most amazing weeks of my life!
Suddenly I found myself eating foreign cheeses with baguettes as meals, basking in the beautiful Mediterranean sun and eating more gelato than my waist line would have liked. (Yes there was a lot of food in Italy, yes Italian women told me I needed to eat more and yes, there will be a future post dedicated completely to my gelato escapades.) Sadly, though, due to unforeseen circumstances, I was not able to blog while I was abroad. Somewhere in between hours of homework, well deserved naps, traveling and lack of wifi I lost any and all time to devote to blogging. But I am so excited to share with you my experience and lots and lots of pictures of this amazing trip!
When I think back on my experience I feel a sort of disorganization. Mainly due the fact that I felt physically disoriented for most of my stay ((it's hard to stay grounded when you're living your dream)) but also because there is just so much to tell of this amazing experience! I've had trouble knowing where to start! But I guess there is no better start than at the beginning, which just so happened to be the beach. :)
Another aspect of Bogliasco I loved was the rich history found in such a small town. Not only could one find beautiful, ornately decorated churches, but even the architecture and pathways throughout Bogliasco were filled with history and a story. The compasses found on the ground were strongly tied to the history of fishing and boating that made up a great portion of the Mediterranean economy, both historically and contemporarily.
There is also a bridge in Bogliasco that seems fairly out of place. It is located by the only sand beach in Bogliasco and seems to be more presentational than functional. There is no river or stream underneath. However, at one point in time there used to be a road that connected Pisa to the Liguri area and it passed over this bridge. Another really fun fact about this small town is the large yellow mansion overlooking the beaches. It was originally built in the 16th century as a castle to guard the town against invasions! Unfortunately today it is privately owned and maintained with no more access than the gated picture I was able to snap and the small sliver of a gorgeous private pool looking out to the ocean. If I could live there I would. In a heart beat!
I loved this quaint little town so much I decided to base my final project around it (which is mainly why I'm able to spit out random facts about it). There's really nothing like spending a lazy saturday laying out and jumping off rocks into the Mediterranean. This past summer was an amazing adventure, spent circling the same two blocks in search of a gelateria and eating the most succulent peach I've even eaten in my life--amongst other things, I suppose--and Bogliasco was a huge part of that wonderful experience.
As much as I love Bogliasco and living vicariously through my past experiences [[as I sit in my dining room looking at my oh so glamorous socks that I should be folding]], I would love even more to hear about your favorite beaches! Feed my wanderlust and bucket list! Unfortunately this blog post has been a long time in coming. ~~life of a college student~~ BUT, fear not! My Insta and Twitter are updated frequently and if you subscribe you will never miss a future post. There will be gelato involved, and who would want to miss that? :) As always, thank you for sticking around to the end. Until next time!
xoxo,
